HEAVIER BOMBING
BRITISH COAST TOWNS HOUSING BLOCKS SUFFER (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, May 29. Enemy air activity over Britain last night was heavier than on the previous night, says an Air Ministry communique. Bombs were dropped mostly round the coast on the northwest, east and south-east. Some damage and casualties are reported. A number of people were rendered homeless at a place in the south-east'. At least one raider was destroyed. The Mayor and Mayoress of a southeast coast are feared to be missing as a result of high explosive bombs demolishing their house to-day. The Mayor’s son-in-law was blown out of the house. He suffered from shqck. High explosive bombs extensively damaged a residential district. Three bodies, including that of a child, have been recovered. German long-range guns started firing 10-minute salvoes across the channel after midnight. Buildings on the south-east coast shook as the shells exploded with terrific detonations.
