AXIS IN LIBYA BRITISH PROGRESS ADVANCE IN IRAQ ITAUANS SURROUNDED ABYSSINIAN GARRISON (Elec. Tel. Copyriixht—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. noon. RUGBY, May 29. The latest German bid to invade Egypt has been halted along a fluid line reaching from a couple of miles on the Egyptian side of Solium to a point in the desert 30 miles to the south. The Germans have not attempted to push on. The indications are that they do not intend to do more than try to consolidate the positions they have regained. Military circles in London note with satisfaction that both in Abyssinia and Iraq steady progress is being made. In northern Abyssinia the British and Imperial forces are systematic- 1 ally clearing the blocked- roads in the north Dessie area. In the south Patriot forces with British officers surrounded Baco, where the strength of the Italian garrison is not knbwh here. In Iraq, British and Imperial forces ai'e advancing towards Baghdad from Fallujah, but it is not known how fast or how far. The Iraqis are quitting the irrigation boundaries and flooding the roads.
