PATRIOTIC APPEAL

TOKOMARU RAISES QUOTA (Herald Correspondent.) An appeal made throughout the Tokomaru Bay district for donations to the all-purposes patriotic fund has met with instant success. The sum ci' £250 was the amount to be raised by this area. Commencing with a children’s fancy dress ball, at which £lO was raised, a further £69 16s Gd came from the Hollywood stars’ radio appeal, while the An?.ac Day service collection totalled £9 7s 2d, a carnival night at the Gaiety Theatre £B6, cash donations £6B Os 9d. and Maungahauini ladies’ Sub-committee receipts from card evenings £22, These amounts filled die Bay’s quota. The committee lias thanked all who gave cash donations, produce, and sheep and all who worked to make a success of the carnival night.
