PAY FOR SECRETARY
EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS COUNCIL APPROVAL A proposal to appoint a paid score tnry to the emergency precautions service organisation in Gisborne was approved by the Gisborne Borough Council last night. This followed the reading of a letter from the committee, which stated that the secretarial work was of such magnitude that it was too much to expec! it to be done in an honorary capacity The sum of £9 a week was proposed The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., said' that the town clerk, Mr W. M. Jenkins, had been acting secretary up to now, but as lie bad his hands full if had been necessary for him to tender his resignation, although he still held a position on I lie committee to attend to record:and finance. The committee had approached a number of men, and though some were willing to take on the position, they were unable t.cspare the time from their ordinary work. It was the intention to call a conference of local bodies of the district to seek their co-operation and financial assistance to the emergency precautions scheme. On the Mayor’s motion, the council agreed with the proposal.
