CLAIMS OF GISBORNE BOROUGH COUNCIL PLEA APPEAL TO AUTHORITIES A further appeal is to be made to the authorities with a view to securng the establishment of an air base n Gisborne, following a resolution passed by the Gisborne Borough Council las[ night. Mr. R. Morse said that the council ppporled the action of the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman. M.P., in endeavouring to secure the establishment, of ’ base here so that Gisborne would lave the same treatment as some other places. Air trainees from Gisborne had to go to other centres for their '.raining, and Gisborne's isolation -hould lie an argument in favour of a base being established at this centre. He moved that the council should arcss the matter further. Air. IT. 11. Do Costa seconded the motion, saying that Gisborne line! one of the finest aerodromes in the Dominion, and even if only a few planes were stationed here it would be a big help.

Mr. F. Tolerton, who supported the motion, said that such a base would oe a big asset to the district.

'I lie Mayor said he had discussed the matter several times with the authorities, and while nothing had eventuated, no harm could be done by ores ' ng the matter further.
