WINNING ’CHASERS

J. GOODWIN AS TRAINER The distinction of winning two good steeplechases lately with horses who were having their first start over country belongs to the Papatoetoe trainer, J. J. Goodwin, who won at Ellerslie with Rey Lu and at Pukckohe with Selwyn. Goodwin believes in having his jumpers well schooled and the virtue of this is borne out by the good form shown by Rey Lu and Selwyn. who should achieve more success before the jumping season ir much further advanced. In winning at Pukekohc. Selwyn gave a very polished display for a young jumper and was going like a winner throughout. Selwyn is a six-vear-old gelding by Lurina from Gortyn and is a half-brother to • Ga> Vaals, who has shown good form over country. He is in-bred to Soult. i most successful sire, Lurina being by Lucullus from Cathnrina, by Soult and Gortyn by King Soult, son of Soult. The future looks bright for Selwyn.
