ONE MORE MEETING
AFTER ELECTIONS MAYOR THANKS MEMBERS Last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council was the last for the present members before the municipal elections on May 17, but it was pointed out by the Mayor. Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., that there would be one more meeting of the present council a few days after the elections. He expected that very little would be done at that meeting beyond the transaction of necessary business. Opportunity was taken by the Mayor last night to extend to all councillors his sincere thanks and appreciation for the work they had done during their term and for their loyal support and co-operation to him as Mayor. They had differed in their opinions, but they had expressed no heat in doing so. Whether or not they were returned at tile r orlhcoming election, the Mayor said ' was sure the people of Gisborn" appreciated the work they had done during the past three years. After all. the right of the people to express their opinions and also to express them in the ballot-box was one which people enjoyed throughout (he British Empire, but it was a right that would no longer exist if, by any stretch of the imagination, our enemies should conquer us. After again expressing his appreciation to all councillors, the Mayor added: ‘‘And on election day you will get what you deserve.” Those present at last night’s meeting were:—The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman. M.P., Dr. A. L. Singer, Messrs. H. H. De Costa, F. Toierton, .1. H. Hall, G. D. Muirhead. E. Harris( R. Morse, G. Bradley Smith, and IT E. Maude.
