FIRE AT HOSPITAL
WOODEN BLOCK DAMAGED REMOVAL OF PATIENTS BRIGADE’S GOOD SAVE (Per Press Association.) NELSON, this day. Fire damaged portion o£ the old wooden block of the Nelson Hospital this morning. The outbreak occurred in the upstairs storerooms above the isolation block which was occupied by several patients. All the patients in the isolation block and the adjoining ward were removed safely from the building. Despite (he strong south-westerly wind, trie brigade made a good save confining the fire to the eastern end of the building. Members of the fire section of the emergency precautions scheme were in action for the first time and gave valuable assistance. Tlie main hospital was not threatened but the wards were filled with heavy smoke. However, there was no confusion or alarm. The hospital stall used the emergency fire-fighting equipment which assisted in keeping the flames in check till the arrival of the brigade.
