IRAQ CALLS
TRIBES RALLYING BRITAIN’S CAUSE COUNTER TO NAZIS BID BY RASHID AU ARABS IN HOLY WAR (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. May 6, 9 a.m.) LONDON, May 5. An Istanbul message says it is learned in British circles that some tribes in northern Iraq are rallying to the British cause.
German circles say that German troop-carrying planes landed in Iraq. The Germans also state that rioting has broken out in Jerusalem.
The Ankara radio reports that a black-out and curfew have been ordered in Baghdad. Doctors and nurses have been ordered to be ready for all emergencies.
Rashid Ali proclaimed a general amnesty for rebels now in Iraq prisons.'They are allowed to return to their Units.
Bombing Allegations
A Vichy news agency message from Baghdad reports that Rashid Ali in his attempt to rouse the Arab world to a holy war against Britain, alleged that British planes on Saturday bombed the open town of Fallouja, on the Euphrates, “hitting a mosque and causing casualties among women and children." The Vichy news agency also reports that the Mufti of Jei'usalem has appealed to Palestinians to “fight against Britain."
The Swiss radio quotes an alleged Iraqi military communique declaring that British planes bombed Baloya, between Baghdad and Habbaniyah, “killing several persons and destroying a number of houses.”
