BARTLETTS NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) Mrs. Rapihana, who has been spending a fortnight with Mrs. W. Matenga, has returned now to Taradale. Mr. Rapihana also paid a short visit last week.—Mr. F. Hutchins, Tuai, spent the week-end as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Mulligan, Barfletts. Mrs. C. F. Mori and her hvo sons left on Monday for Wairoa, where they will spend a fortnight’s holiday with Mrs. Smith. Master Broughton Matenga was admitted to the Cook Hospital, Gisborne, last week. —Miss Barbara King, Solway College, Masterton, arrived on Friday to spend Ihe vacation with her oarents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. King, Bartletts. Mrs. Pearson and Colin are expected home this week after spending three weeks with Mrs. Pearson's
sister on Paparatu station. —Mr. E. A Smith spent the week-end at Bartletts.
Mr. C. F. Mori lias been transferred to the Public Works Department. Gisborne, and left on Monday to take over his new appointment. He has been a resident of Bartictts for two years.—Mr. Ron Hutchins was a visitor to Bartletts at the week-end. — Miss Connie Kara was a week-end visitor to Muriwai. —Mr. F. Fouhv was home with his family for the weekend. —Mr. W. Matenga, who has spent several weeks in the Cook Hospital this year, is not yet able to return to work.
A severe storm set in about midnight on Sunday and exceptionally heavy rain has fallen. The wind reached gale force and the display of lightning, accompanied by thunder, was vivid. It is many months since a storm of such severity \isilcd the Bartletts district.
