THE HOME GUARD
ATTITUDE OF FARMERS A complaint that farmers in the Yaldhurst district were not taking sufficient interest in the Home Guard was made at a meeting of the Papprua County Council by Mr. F. A. McTeigue, who has been doing organising work for the Home Guard in the district. He said that the farmers complained that their work prevented them from attending meetings of the Home Guard, yet at a recent meeting for enrolment there was a group standing on the corner when the meeting was over.
Mr. McTeigue said that if farmers, who had an interest in the country, were not willing to come forward, he could not see how a lead could be given to others. He was only requesting that farmers should register. They could attend parades when they found it possible and, even if they could not march and drill, they should come to lectures. The chairman, Mr. A. E. Langdale-Hunt, said that the Legislature should have made service in the Home Guard compulsory.
