VIGIL IN THE RAIN
WOMAN GUARDS WIRE HIGH WIND IN MANAWATU Regardless of her own com tort, a woman stood in the rain guarding a fallen electric wire which came down during a high wind at Palmerston .North. She waited there until workmen arrived to take charge. Other electric wires were brought down, and residents' quickly advised the authorities so that these sources ol danger would remain no longer than could be avoided.
The work of the Palmerston North City Council’s repair gangs for several hours was made more nrdous by the high wind and lashing rain which fell at night. High-tension lines were brought clown in Ferguson street and Fcaliiorston street, the latter serving the hospital block. This was supplied from another source. Numbers of service lines leading into residences were also broken.
