Dogs On Leashes

The Gisborne Borough Council last night adopted a proposal by Mr. H. E. Maude, seconded by Mr. 11. 11. De Costa, to have a by-law amendment drafted with the object of compelling dog-owners to have their dogs on leaches when in the town area. Councillors agreed that the present liberties allowed to dogs in the business area were objectionable.

Building Pcnnits No new dwellings or businessplaces were covered bv building permits issued by the Gisborne Borough Council during the past fortnight. In his report to the council at last night’s meeting, the engineer. Mr. E. R. Thomas, stated that the tola] value of buildings covered by permits was £!) 17, of which .£(532 was accounted for by a subdivision of one house into fiats, £l4O by alterations and additions, and £145 by the cost of motor sheds.
