HOME GUARD SOCIAL (Herald .Correspondent.) The Opoutama Home Guard Committee was responsible for the organisation of the successful social evening held in the Opoutama Hall last: Friday. The hall was gay with; numerous bright lights and thronged with the largest attendance of the I public, including represerftatives fromNuhaka, Maliia. Morere and Kopua. whara, witnessed for many months, j Dancing was enjoyed to music sup- , plied by Mr. L. Spiller, Morere, and, Mr. J. Puriri, Kopuazyhara, with extras by Mr. O. Mac Kay and Miss; Hapi. Solo items were contributed by Mr. H. Poi Pol and Miss M. Brown During an interval Mr. Short, secretary of the Opoutama branch of the Home Guard, speaking on behalf of the committee, thanked all present for their support and mentioned that the funds of the Home Guard would benefit considerably by the proceeds from the entertainment. A delicious supper was served by the ladies. In connection with the gala day held in Kopuawhara on March 1, advice lias been received by the Kopuawhara Patriotc Fund Committee from .the Wairoa District Patriotic Committee, to the eflect that the amount raised by the committee towards the Wairoa district quota of the £1,000,000 heart to heart appeal, and duly credited to the Mahia riding quota of the district amount, totalled the creditable sum of £lll 14s. The Wairoa district committee thanked the Kopuwhara committee for its splendid contribution. A letter also has been received by the Kopuawhara committee from the Opoutama committee conveying its congratulations on the success of the gala day. Mr. and Mrs. R. Dalhousie spent the week-end in Napier. Mr. Dalhousie attended a meeting of the Medical Association—Miss Nancy Ilighot, Wairoa, paid a visit over the week-end to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Highet.— Mr. J. D. Highet. who has been in camp at Foxton, is home in Kopuawhara on sick leave.
