AMERICA’S HELP
SUPPLIES OF WAR DEMOCRACY CAUSE ROOSEVELT’S PLEDGE AUSTRALIAN WELCOME (Elbc. Tel. Copyright-United Pross Assn.) (Reed. Mar. 18, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Mar. 17. Reports of the speech given in Washington on Saturday evening by President Roosevelt, during which he renewed the American pledge to make all possible supplies to assist the democracies in the fight against aggression, are featured by the Australian press. The speech greatly heartened the people of the Commonwealth. Editorials express the sentiment that never before in the memorable series of addresses whereby he had progressively educated the American people on the war issues had Mr. Roosevelt spoken with such sureness and authority.
The Sunday Sun says: “The President’s speech was a plain warning to the Germans that only a short step remains toward active hostilities.”
