DEATH IN LONDON
MR. WYVERN WILSON EX-SENIOR MAGISTRATE Cabled advice has been received of the death in London of Mr. Wyvern Wilson, who retired from the position of senior stipendiary magistrate in Auckland a little over three years ago. Mr. Wilson Was a member of an old New Zealand family, his grandfather, the Rev. J. A. Wilson, of the Church Missionary Society, having arrived here more than 100 years ago. H:s father was the late Mr. J. A. Wilson, judge of the Native Land Court.
Mr. Wilson was born in Gi-mom 2 in IMO. He was educated at the old Church of England Grammar Sehoou Parnell, the Domain Grammar Sch< 01, Parnell, and Auckland University College. He was articled to the lata Mr. Samuel Jackson in Auckland, and after qualifying as a barrister and solicitor he practised at Hawera, Pnhiatua and Auckland.
In 1911, when he was only 14 Mr. Wilson was appointed a magistrate and stationed at Nelson. Subsequently he presided over ebtu’ts oh the West Coast, and at Wanganui, Christchurch and Hamilton. After seven years at Hamilton he went to Auckland in 1933 to succeed Mr. E. C. Cutten as senior magistrate. When Mr. Wilson retired the good Work Mrs. Wilson and he had done for patriotic organisations was publicly recognised by ouch societies as the Royal Empire Society, the Navy League, the Victoria League and the Overseas League, Representatives of the Law Society and of the police also united to pay tribute to him. Shortly after his retirement Mr. and Mrs. Wilson went to England. Mrs. Wilson, who is a daughter of the late Mr. H. C. Choyce, is at present tvith their only child, Mrs. Reynold Boyd, of London.
