WHITE BUTTERFLIES
After an absence which was sufficiently pronounced to convince many people that their propagation had been brought under control, white butterflies have made their appearance in large numbers everywhere through the Wairarapa. Crops which are to their liking have been badly infested with larvae, and in town gardens cabbages, cauliflowers, swedes, turnips and similar plants have in a number of instances been eaten right down to the stalk by the voracious caterpillars. The speed with which these pests work is extraordinary. One caterpillar was observed to consume almost half a large nasturtium leaf in about 10 minutes.
