FIVE MAORIS CONVICTED FOUR GET THREE MONTHS Five Maoris charged with aggravated assault on a female pleaded guilty before Messrs. F. W. Hunt and D. J. McNaught, J.P’s, in the Magistrate’s Court in Te AraroaThe accused were Paratene Pako, aged 22, Wiri.mu Pako, aged 20, Harry Honana, aged 19, Rua Kirikiri Waenga, aged 36, and Tommy Heta, aged 18. The first four were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, and the other Was placed on probation for three years.

Constable R. H. Hynds stated that the assault occurred at Waihau Bay after a dance on February 23. The girl alleged that she was pulled from a horse and assaulted by each of the accused in turn.
