KOPUAWHARA NEWS

SOLDIER ENTERTAINED (Herald Correspondent.) Mr. and Mrs. B. Brien were the guests at a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. K. Sim on Thursday evening in honQUr of Mr. Brien, who returns to Treritham to-day after spending his leave in Kopuawhara. At the opening of the evening Phyllis Hart presented Mrs. Brien with a handsome bouquet, after which all present entered whole-heartedly into hilarious games, interspersed with community singing. A sumptuous buffet supper was succeeded by a presentation of a leather wallet donated by all present. In presenting .this token, Mr. Sim, on behalf of the donors, spoke of the respect and esteem all held for the soldier. Mr. Brien, in replying, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Sim for their hospitality and all present for the presentation. Those present were Mi\ and A. S. Judd, Mr. and Mrs. C. Tainm, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Hart, Mr. and Mrs. D. Nathan; Mesdames W- Cotter, F. Smith, and J. V/ildermott; Misses Joan Deighton 'and Phyllis Hart; Messrs. E. Fairhe] L. Meha, ‘S. Puriri, and A. J< Simpson.

Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Partridge and family, after having resided in Tikiwhata for the past four years, have arrived to make their home in Kopuawhara.'—Mr. C. Chesley, Paritu, is vistiing Wairoa. —Mr. and Mrs. C. Tamm, Mr. D. Tamm, and Mrs. E. W. McEnnis were visitors to Gisborne to-day.—Mr. M. J. McNamara, recently from Tikiwhata, is residing at Paritu. —Private N. Lowe, who has been spending his leave with Mr. and Mrs. I*'. Lowe, Kopuawhara, returned to Napier on Thursday.—Mr. A. L. Searle left on Thursday for Napier, where he intends making his home- „ The following players will represent the Kopuawhara Tennis Club in a match against M.I.A. for the ShQrtt Cup, in Kopuawhara:—Men.—L. Anderson, H. Taylor, J. Puriri, and L. Meha. Women.—Mrs. Cotter, Mrs. Fairlie, Miss Ker and Miss Kireka.
