MAJESTIC THEATRE LAST DAY: “GOLD RUSH MAISIE” AND “LITTLE ORVIE” Ann Sothcrn as the wise-cracking stranded show girl “Maisie,” scores another success in her third hit “Gold Rush Maisie," which concludes tonight at the Majestic Theatre. The associate feature, “Little Orvie." is adapted from Booth Tarkington’s comedy of youth and stars young John Sheffield, who will be remembered as the son of Tarzan. —To-Morrow: George Raft in “Invisible Stripes” and “Two-Fisted Rangers”— No studio produces a gangster picture quite so expertly as the Warner plant, where, under executive producer. T-I. B. Wallis’ gifted tutelage, the business of proving that crime dees not pay has been reduced to an exact science. The basic argument of “Invisible Stripes," which commences at the Majestic Theatre tomorrow, is to the effect that an ex-convict on parole finds it so hard to obtain nonest employment that he usually turns once again to the practice of crine as a matter of necessity. Phis point is argued most iiluminatingjy and convincingly in the first half ol' the film, during which time George Raft, as the temporarily honest exconvict. tries by every means in his power to "go straight.” Finding his efforts to be in vain. Raft who gives a typically solid performance, goes back to robbery, and the film ends up in a climax of flying lead quite as spectacular and lethal as any the studio has turned out. Romantic interest is supplied by Jane Bryan, while William Holden and Humphrey Bogart handle supporting roles in a convincing fashion. In the associate feature. “Twc-Fisted Rangers" there is plenty of incident, with hard riding and hard fighting. For the climax there it a pitched gun battle in the best tradi lien. Charles Slarrett and Iris Meredith both give good performances, and the “Sons of the Pioneers” contribute several typical musical numbers. An added attraction is the “Dead Luc Kids’ " serial, “Junior -G-Men.”
