NAZI ‘FIGHTER—BOMBERS CLASH OVER CHANNEL FORMATIONS CHECKED (El«e. T«l. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Rccd. Feb. 24, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 23. Taking advantage of the spring-like weather, unusually strong forces ct German fighter - bombers appeared over the Straits of Dover this afternoon. Spitfires and anti-aircraft batteries ilong the channel went into action. A number of the enemy machines turned -jack before reaching the English coast. There has been no “alerf’in London since midnight on Friday. During the heavy barrage against the raiders over a. north-east coast ‘.own last night, a loud explosion was neard. A “ball of fire’’ seen in the sky is believed to have been an enemy plane brought down. The attack lasted three hours. A few people were injured. Fires were quickly put out.
