BY TRAIN TO PARADE
BARTLETTS HOME GUARD MURIWAI APPOINTMENTS (Hurald Correspondent.) The enthusiasm shown by members of the Muriwai Home Guard, some of whom travel long distances to parades, is bringing results. Uncertainty of movement is disappearing, and at the conclusion of yesterday’s parade the men were moving with a precision and military bearing that formerly were absent. The strength of the unit is sufficient for the formation of a mounted troop and an infantry section. Yesterday troop drill on foot was taken by Captain C. H. Williams, while Staff-Sergeant T. H. Morgan, Gisborne, gave instruction in squad drill and rifle drill. Mr. H. Le Bas, of the Internal Affairs Department, also was present and gave instruction in physical drill to the whole unit.
To enable the Bartletts members to attend parade a small special train is being run from Bartletts to Muriwai, returning after the parade. At the conclusion of yesterday’s training, Captain Williams expressed on behalf of the unit appreciation of the presence of the instructors, and announced the following N.C.O. appointments:—Acting staff sergeantmajor, Mr. C. J. Cox; sergeant, Mr. J. F. Mills; section leaders, Corporals T. Romminger, G. Taipiha, F. Mulligan, J. French and C. Mori. Evening parades will be held at Bartletts on Wednesday and at Muriwai on Thursday, while the next daylight parade will be on Sunday week.
