FORMER DETECTIVE

MR. A. HAMMOND DEAD (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Mr. Alfred Hammond, formerly chief detective, died' last night. He joined the police force in 1895 in Wellington, and accompanied the late King George V land Queen Mary when they toured the Dominion as Duke and Duchess of York. Mr. Hammond was transferred to the detective office in Auckland in 1912, and remained here for 20 years before retiring with the rank of chief detective.
