THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast Genpr.al Situation. —An extensive anticyclone is .centred oyer the North Island, while a disturbance is moving slowly across the South Island. Forecast. —Winds moderate to strong npr.th-westerlies over the North Island, elsewhere fresh southerlies gradually .prevailing and possibly extending as far as Taranaki and southern Hawke’s Bay during the next 24 hours. Seas in Neyv Zealand waters rough at times in Cook Strait and south of Akaroa, elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea moderate to strong winds, north-westerly in the northern portion and south-westerly in the south; sea becoming rather •rough. Weather changeable in Otago and Southland, with passing showers chiefly on the coast, unsettled over the remainder of the South Island, with occasional rain extending from the south; elsewhere fair to fine, but scattered rain later developing in Wellington province' and in parts of Taranaki.
