TERMITE MENACE

DISCOVERY IN MT. EDEN INSPECTION OF BUILDINGS ‘'We have no option now other than to be designated as a termite area,” said the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. R. J. Mills, at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council, when a report by Mr. S. E. Chappell revealed the presence in large numbers of the Australian white ant in the Grange Road Baptist Church. Mr. Chappell said the building was very badly affected by the termite, and he produced a piece of timber which had been riddled by ants. "It seems to me significant that nearly all the buildings that are attacked are old structures,” said Mr. Mills. It was decided that the building inspector. Mr. A. Penman, should take the course of instruction at the Plants Diseases Research Division, Mount Albert, and then carry out a thorough inspection of buildings to search for termite infection.
