CITY HALL FUNCTION PATRIOTIC EFFORT R.S.A. AND POWER BOARD Organised in aid of the district rehabilitation funds, the cooking demonstration and sale of produce at the City Hall opened to-day with the prospect of doing good business. The function will continue to-night and throughout to-morow when the hall will be open all day and through the evening. Lighting effects and display devices never previously ■ attempted have transformed the hall, and the stalls are laden with meat, vegetables, fruit, cakes, and other popular items, while ice-creams and cordials, tea and entertainment are provided by another well-organised portion of the voluntary staff.
The Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board, which has co-operated with the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association’s social committee in organising the function, has expended a considerable amount of labour and ingenuity upon lighting and display, and the electrical cooking demonstration conducted by the board’s demonstrator is full of interest for housewives. The manner in which the board and its staff have carried out their share of the organisation has earned the warmconmendation of the R.S.A. committee, which itself is well-known for thoroughness and practical work.
Citizens of Gisborne who may have failed to note the dates advertised in cohnection with the function are reminded that the closing session will be held to-morrow evening. Thoss willing to assist in patriotic work will need no reminder of the importance social committee and the Power Board are putting out a big effort, deserving of the object for which the R.S.A whole-hearted support from the public.
