CLAIM TO BE ITALIAN

RESERVIST’S APPEAL ANTIPATHY TO BRITAIN (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Claiming that he was an Italian, Gevonani Michele Alberino, a mechanic, appealed against military service before the Armed Forces Appeal Board to-day.' Alberino said that his brother and father were classed as Italians and he claimed there was no difference. His appeal rested a good deal on the way he had been treated. He had been treated like an alien. For the first three months of the war he was subjected to all the restrictions placed on aliens. Then the authorities decided that he was a British subject Replying to the Crown representative, he said that even if he had not been treated as an alien, he would still hot want to fight for Britain because his sympathies were elsewhere. He was born in New Zealand. The appeal was dismissed.
