JAPANESE LEAVE U.S.
SLUMP IN BUSINESS SCARE NEWS DISCREDITED FAR EASTERN SITUATION (Reed. Feb. 10, 1.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 9. The Japanese Consulate disclosed that many Japanese are preparing to leave the United States. It says the movement is the result of the slump in business relations and ridicules the story they are leaving because of the delicate Far Eastern situation.
The Domei news agency quotes the Tokio newspaper, Asahi, as stating that 150 women and children of Japanese families in New York are leaving the United States because of the imminent German spring offensive against Britain and the delicate Far Eastern situation.
The best information here does not credit the foregoing opinion and supports the version given by the Consulate.
