LABOUR PARTY BRANCH WELCOME RAINFALL (Hprald Corresporulpnl.) The monthly meeting of the Nuhaka farmers’ branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, which was held on Tuesday evening last, was well attended. It was decided to continue the card parties, the funds to be set aside for the election campaign. The branch welcomed two new members. Personal Items Mrs. H. R. Hickling is visiting her daughter, Mrs E. Wiren, in Wellington, —Mrs. G. D. Tod, accompanied by her son Landel, who has been visiting Hastings and Otane, has returned home. —Mr. and Mrs. J. Crombie are spending a holiday at Rotorua. —Mrs. M. J. Begley and her daughters. Hastings. who have been on a visit to Nuhaka, and were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Begley, have returned home.—Mrs. A. T. Glenny, Morere, and Miss’l. Glenny are visitors to Hastings. Miss I. 'Glenny has received word that she has passed the final examination for A.P.C.L. diploma of music.—Miss M. Nepia has left for. Wellington, where she will resume her studies at Wellington Training College.—Mrs. R. Long, Wairoa, is a visitor to Nuhaka and is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. T. McKee.—Mr. M. Begley, who has joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force, is in training at Harewood camp, Christchurch. Beneficial Rain The total rainfall, registered at the Nuhaka public school for January, 1941, was 10.36 in., which was the heaviest since 1934. The recent rainfall in Nuhaka was most beneficial to dairy farmers, who report their herds are maintaining production. Native School Committee The annual meeting of parents to elect a committee for the ensuing year was held at the Nuhaka Native School on Friday evening. Mr. P. Campbell presided. Mr. A. Rolland, headmaster, was also present. The committee was elected as follows: Messrs. P. Campbell, chairman, T. Whaanga, S. Whaanga, R. Bartlett, D. Smith and T. Nepia. Returned Soldiers The monthly committee meeting of the Nuhaka Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Friday evening, there being a fair attendance. There were present Messrs. W. Mitchell, president, F. H. Young, vice-president, G. D. Tod, secretary, J. T. Begley, G. Hart, W. Nepia and P. D. Sullivan. Most of the evening was taken up with questions relating to the Home Guard. The financial membership of the Nuhaka Returned Soldiers’ Association is now 70, which is a record for the Nuhaka branch.
