Last Night's Forecast General Situation. —An anticyclone centred near Tasmania extends over the north Tasman Sea and a very deep depression is located near Chatham Islands and is moving slowly southeastward. Forecast.—Winds north-westerly at times about Cook Strait, but otherwise westerly to southerly direction prevailing; fresh to strong generally with gales in many places. Seas in New Zealand waters rough to very rough. In the eastern Tasman Sea strong south-westerly winds to gales and very rough seas. Weather rather squally and changeable, with occasional local showers, but mainly fair to fine, mild at first in the north, but temperatures becoming cooler generally. To-Day’s North Island Report

Cloudy conditions were reported from most North Island stations this morning, the only place where blue sky was showing being Gisborne. Winds were mainly light and from a northwesterly direction. The barometer had dropped to a fairly low level. Temperatures at 9 a.m. were; Napier, 70 degrees; Auckland 08; Tauranga, 00; Gisborne and East Cape, 04; Opoliki,: 03; Wellington, 59. Seas were smooth to moderate except at Wellington, where they are reported to be rough. Midday Forecast
