TAKITIMU The monthly meeting of the Takitimu Women’s Institute, held on December 12, took the form of a social afternoon and the president, who presided over a good attendance, welcomed several visitors and wished everyone the compliments of the season. A name competition was won by Mrs. Rhodes and a lucky number by Mrs. Havers. The birthday party on February 20 will be held in the morning at. the secretary's home. Competitions resulted:—Gooseberry Jelly.—Mrs. McLeod, 1. Christmas Novelty.—Mrs. Blair, 1; Mrs. Gozley, 2; Mrs. Cossin. 2. NGATAPA The December meeting of the Ngatapa Women's Institute was well attended. Lady Russell, Hawke’s Bay, Mrs. L. Balfour, Mrs. J. Cranswick, and Miss McKinley attended as visitors. “Helpful Suggestions for the New Year Programme” was the roll call. The sales table was well stocked and all goods met with a ready demand. Mrs. L. Balfour, provincial commissioner of the Girl Guides, gave a most interesting talk on the Girl Guide movement and the work and activities of the Poverty Bay branch. Much interest was displayed in Mrs. Balfour’s address and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded her, while a beautiful posy was presented to her by Mrs. F. Briant. The competition, jar of marmalade, D. S. Williams, 1; Mrs. B. S. Jones, 2; Miss P. Richardson, 3. The hostesses were Mrs. G. J. O. Booth and Miss M. Dolman. WAERENGA-A-HIKA

The monthly meeting of the Wae-reng'a-a-hika Women’s Institute was held in the Parish Hall on December 17. There was only a fair attendance of members owing to most farmers being busy harvesting and Christmas being so near. It was with regret that Mrs. Robcke’s resignation from Ihe secretaryship was received. Christmas greetings were received from Mrs. O’Connell, a past president, who is living now in Wellington. The annual picnic will be held al the Waihirerc Domain on January 21. Eggs were brought to he sold, the money to be sent to the children of Heni Materoa Homo for Christmas cheer. The trades table, as usual, did good busines. Miss Cocks-Johnson’s visit on February 27 is looked forward to with great interest. The competitions resulted: —Dress: Mrs. Duncan. 1; Mrs. Mann and Mrs. Barrow, tie, 2. Flowers: Mrs. Mann. 1; Mrs. Duncan, 2. Mrs. Barrow gave a demonstration of glove-making, which was followed with interest. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Somcrton.
