SERUM FROM AMERICA
DIPHTHERIA CHECK BRITISH CHILDREN (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Dec. 23, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. The United States Red Cross authorities, at the request of the Ministry of Health, are sending by air serum to inoculate 200,000 British school children and enough serum to immunise 800,000 is being sent by sea. Approximately 11,500,000 British children under 15 have not been inoculated against diphtheria 1 . Conditions in shelters have increased the danger of the disease spreading. The Ministry of Health intends to immunise at least 5,000,000 children. A special report from the medical officers of the Board of Education shows that the nerves and health' of most British school children have stood up extremely well to the strain of war conditions.
Where the children’s nerves have given trouble It is usually a reflection on Ihc condition of the adult members of the family. The hours of sleeping have been increased in most cases, and the children have shown a capacity to sleep through heavy bombardments, even in wrecked homes.
