GIRL GUIDE SOCIAL (Herald Correspondent.) In order to raise funds to buy knitting wool for patriotic purposes, the Te Karaka Girl Guide Company, under the leadership of the captain, Miss Valda Bull, held a very successful social evening in the Parish Hall. The programme comprised a pleasing variety of items, commencing'with an amusing play, “Three Blind Mice,” in which all members of the Guide Company took part. Vocal solos by Misses Norah Jones. Joy Clayton and Louisa Jones, a recitation by Miss Thelma Nisbett. and a pianoforte solo by Miss Leone Atkins were received with applause. The items were interspersed with dance numbers, for which Mr. T. L. Earnshaw acted as M.C. and MissL. Ruru as pianist, Miss S. Doran contributing extras. A Monte Carlo waltzing competition attracted many entrants, Master M. Burgess and Miss E. -Tuapawa being the successful couple. Master Warwick Atkins was the winner of a lucky number contest. A delicious supper was served by members of the Guide Company. In addition to the Guides, there were present Mesdames C. 'Bull, F. Hobbs, F. M. Clayton, J. McKenzie, M. Brown, C. G. Atkins, J. Barr, Fisher, J. Graham, H. Buckingham and W.'G. Jerram; Misses V. Bull, L. Ruru, V. Seamons, M. Fisher, M. Stephenson, F. Mills, S. Doran, M. Nisbett. F. Tuapawa, J. Clayton, J. McKenzie and Johnson.
Miss Shirley Luttrell is spending a holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. V. R. Luttrell, Te Karaka.—Mr. and Miss Gallie, Wellington, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Tullock.
