REPORTED TORPEDOED

N.Z. CARGO LINER ATTACKED IN ATLANTIC ANOTHER VESSEL SUNK (Reed. Dec. 16, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 15. The Mackay radio reports that the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Orari, of 10,000 tons, was torpedoed on Saturday afternoon at a point 49.50 degrees north, 20.55 degrees west. It also reported that the British liner Western Prince, of 11,000 tons, was attacked by a submarine 400 miles north-west of the northern tip of Ireland. Is is reported that the Canadian Minister of Munitions, Mr. L. D. Howe, is a passenger from New York. The Canadian Legation at Washington stated that Mr. Howe and his party had been rescued from the Western Prince. The Orari, a speedy craft that did 171 knots on her trials about 10 years ago, was a motor ship built for the New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited. She was a twin-screw vessel of 10,010 tons gross and a dead-weight capacity of 12,600 tons.
