FRESH IMPETUS
FREEZING SEASON KILLINGS INCREASING ■ The continuance of the dry weather up to yesterday gave of stock to the Kaiti freezing woi*ks a fresh impetus, and during the past week about 26,000 lambs and sheep, mainly lambs, were slaughtered, in addition to small numbers of other stock.
To date, between 80,000 and 85,000 lambs and sheep have been killed at the Kaiti works since the commencement of the season on November 14. and bookings are large for the coming week.
Lambs are coming forward in good condition, and they are much heavier than last season. The earlier ones were light, but the dry weather since then has hardened up the grass, providing ideal fattening conditions, but in addition to this farmers seem to have developed a tendency of holding on to their lambs ,to secure more weight than in a normal season, No change has taken place in the buying schedule, the top price for lambs remaining at 7§d, wethers at 4Jd, ewes at 2gd, and bullocks at 33s per 1001 b. ____________
