Collapse of Maypole
The collapse of a heavy maypole in the Te Poi School grounds, near Matanxata, resulted in severe injuries to two pupils aged 10. Alan Priestly, son of Mrs. V. Cohham, of Te Poi, received internal injuries which, although not. grave necessitated his removal to Waikato Hospital, and Jimmy Kapi, a Maori scholar, had ids right arm broken.
