CASINO IN PORTUGAL LONDON, Nov. 10. Gone are the glories of Monte Carlo, whose polyglot well-to-do patrons have found a new gay spot at Estoril, If miles from Lisbon. To-day. Portugal's capital is Europe’s crossroads, and Estoril Europe’s “new lung.” Its bizarre casino externally offends; the eye. but the interior spells luxury and comfort for the world’s elite. “Life goes on there with some pretence of normality—petrol, sugar and unrationed whisky are cheaper than in London,” cables Henry Buckley to the Daily Express from Lisbon. “The dinner-jacketed group in the corner of the restaurant are oil-kings, their grey-haired doyen one of Britain’s six richest men. “A distinguished figure, formally dressed, accompanied by two charming Portuguese girls, is one of Germany’s ‘clever young men’ that the Foreign Minister, Herr von Ribbentrop, sends hither and thither.”
