MAJESTIC THEATRE
“NORTH OF SHANGHAI” AND “SABOTAGE" The deafening crescendo of bombing planes in combat supplies the stirring background “music” for Columbia s “North of Shanghai,” which attracted a large holiday crowd to the Majestic Theatre yesterday. James Craig and Betty Furness are featured. The film a thrilling combination of exciting action and gay romance, is set in. wartorn China. Despite its spectacular battlefield sequences, “North oi Shanghai” is not a war picture in the strict sense of the word. Most of the story unfolds behind the lines, where i fierce inner struggle is waged, a struggle far more intense and more important than that waged in the trenches. The associate feature is “Sabotage,” starring Gordon Oliver and Arleen Whelan. When Oliver is falsely accused of stealing the plans, Arleen Whelan and Charley Grapewin, Oliver’s father, take the law into their own hands and. break up the sabotage ring with the aid of Grapewin’s Veterans’ Home pals. The antics of these veterans are hilarious, but when they get down to business the thrills come quickly. In addition, for good measure, two comedy cartoons are being screened.
