TRACK AND STABLE

KINDERGARTEN’S WIN ALISON CUP SUCCESS On the strength of her good win in the Wgjkato Cup the previous week, Our Jean was made an each way favourite for the Alison Cup at Auckland on Saturday, but she ran unplaced, victory going to the second fancy, the Gisborne-owned Kindergarten. The winner was always well placed, despite the fact that he drew the extreme outside, No. 20, at the barrier. Bronze Moth and Barrister lost a little ground at the start. Royal Appellant and Cornish being in front early from British Talent, Kindergarten, Clipper and Paddy the Rip. British Talent took charge going along the back, only to give way before the half-mile to Bronze Moth, who led into the straight from Royal Appellant, British Talent, Clipper, Kindergarten and Cornish. The leading division hunched at the distance and Kindergarten came strongly on the outside to win by a neck from Anita Foe, who also finished very strongly. Cornish fought on well to be half a length away third, and Bronze Moth was fourth, followed by Greek Queen, whb came from a long way back, Wildore, The Car-, dinal, Mintlaw, Namara and Clipper. Kindergarten registered a fine performance for his first attempt in open company. Our Jean, after getting well back early, made an effort on the inside below the distance, but could not maintain it. Old Bill’s Gallop L. Wilson took Old Bill to Levin on Saturday with Golden Moon and All Quiet. With Tattersall in the saddle, the Centennial Cup winner was galloped a mile and a furlong on the course proper between the first two races. Old Bill hit' out well at a strong working pace, and he is in good order - . He will race at Feilding. Pay 801 l In the Canterbury Welcome Stakes, Pay Roll was in receipt of 51b. from Palfrey, but in the Pioneer Handicap the latter came in on 371 b. better terms, to finish fourth, while Pay Roll dead-heated for first with Corn Prince. Maikaii’s Record Maikai, second in the Melbourne Cup this year, was second in both the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups and third in the Sydney Cup last season, so that he, is building up something like the record of Shadow King, twice second and twice third in the Melbourne Cup. Night Pilot Returns Night Pilot, who arrived in Wellington from Australia on Tuesday, after a rough trip, reach Auckland on Thursday, when he was taken over by E. George. His preparation in Australia was supervised by F. McGrath and, although he did not measure up to classic standard there, he recently showed improved galloping ability and it is expected that he will carry the colours of Mrs. W. D. Graham in the Great Northern Derby. Night Pilot, who cost his owner 360gns. as a yearling, is closely related to Phar Lap. North Island Domination Thirteen horses trained in the North Island won or dead-heated for first in 19 of the races at the New Zealand Cup meeting. The only outright southern success in the open handicaps was that of Royal Chief .in the Metropolitan. Rarely has a meeting of such status been so dominated by visiting horses, but the south could boast that it produced the best hack of the carnival. By common consent, this was Sir Amyas, who won the Qtgia Plate and Hagley Handicap. A four-figure offer for him is understood tp have been made prior to his race last Saturday week, but his owner and trainer, D. J. McDonald, declined tp negotiate.
