EXPLANATION NEEDED
BEWILDERING IN FACT DESTRUCTIVE NATURE UNITY IN WAR EFFORT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. “I am amazed and disturbed at the reported statement attributed to the lion. P. C. Webb at several week-end meetings on the west coast of the South Island,” said the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. A. Hamilton, last night. The Minister’s own explanations of where he stood in the matter, said Mr. Hamilton, would be eagerly awaited by the people of the Dominion. The statements published called for the fullest explanation as not only were they bewildering in fact but destructive in nature, cutting right across the whole spirit of unity in the war effort. They were of such a nature that they could not be passed over lightly as solely the result of statements being taken out of their context and misreported.
