GUILTY OF FRAUD

MERCHANT REMANDED DUPED PEOPLE’S MONEY JUDGE ADVISES RETURN (Per Truss Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A verdict of guilty on all three charges of obtaining money by false pretences was returned by a jury in the Supreme Court at the conclusion last night of the trial of Jim Pei Lo, a merchant, aged 35. Lo was remanded by Mr. Justice Ostler for a week, His Honour saying that he was convinced the prisoner had some hundreds of pounds of other people’s money in his possession, ancl whether he was prepared to give up that money would make a big difference in the amount of punishment. He advised the prisoner, who had defended himself, to consult his solicitor on the subject.
