EJECTED BY POLICE

HECKLER AT MEETING WARNING DISREGARDED ADDRESS BY MR. SEMPLE (Por Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Police action had to be taken against interjectors and hecklers at a public meeting in the Civic Theatre last evening at which the Hon. R. Semple, as Minister of National Service, gave an address on the objects of the Home Guard and Women’s War Service Auxiliary. Early in the meeting the Mayor, Mr. R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., was interrupted repeatedly from the back of the hall. He warned the noisy element, described both by him and by Mr. Semple as “local fifth columnists,” that the police constables on duty would be directed to eject the next interrupter and within a few minutes a man was led from the theatre by a policeman. This action had the effect of quietening the dozen or so men who had expressed their views vocally and the meeting proceeded without further interruption.
