CARD COLLECTION REHABILITATION FUND NEW CARNIVAL FEATURES Before the close of the £20,000 queen carnival campaign which is in progress on behalf of the East Coast Provincial Patriotic Council’s rehabilitation fund, an opportunity will be given to all town residents to contribute directly through the medium of a canvass of the town and suburbs. This project was adopted as a major carnival feature at a 'meeting of the campaign executive, held yesterday afternoon. Dr. A. L. Singer' and Mr. j. J. Macdonald being authorised to organise the collection on the general lines of that undertaken during the sick and wounded fund appeal some weeks ago. Several other carnival features of special interest were discussed, these including the spring race meeting of Ihe Poverty Bay Turf Club on November 2. the profits of which will benefit the sports candidate’s funds; a motorboat regatta on Labour Day, October 28, on behalf of the same candidate; and the R.S.A. Derby Day fair, on November 9, for which nominations are being taken. The Derby Day programme will be comprehensive, and will include events of a novel character. Savage Club’s Extravaganza The Savage Club entertainment, tp be staged in the Opera House next Wednesday, was reported upon by Mr. W. Kohn, who stated that rehearsals gave the impression that “Troopship Ahoy!” would provide one of the most amusing stage shows of recent years. The first half, he explained, would consist of specialty numbers, and a continuity show would occupy the whole of the second half, with the introduction of items especially cle vised for the occasion. The chairman and Mr. Macdonald were deputed to organise the first of two radio appeals for funds. It was agreed that all the queens should participate in the proceeds, to the extent of all donations given to their respective support, and in equal proportions from donations not directly allocated by the givers. Campaign Shop Business

The maintenance of the campaign shop was discussed, and it was re*ported that excellent business had been done there to date. The execur tive allotted the shop to the Returned Soldiers’ Association for Friday next, and indicated that the premises would be available from day to day either for individual queens’ shop days or for the disposal of articles donated to any queen. The shop is' regularly staffed. The sports candidate’s representative reported that it was proposed to hold daily sales of produce from the committee's own premises, in addition (o patronising the campaign executive's shop as occasion arose.
