ARMY OBJECTIVES
RAIDING IN AFRICA ITALIAN POSITIONS ROYAL.. AIR FORCE TOLL BIG FIRES STARTED (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Oct. 14. A communique issued by British headquarters in Cairo states that all is quiet on all fronts. An official communique issued in Cairo on Sunday states: “Royal Air Force aircraft raided military objectives at Bardia yesterday. At least half-a-dozen hits were registered, barracks being successfully attacked. Enemy aircraft concentrated at El Aden were bombed and considerable damage caused. “At Derna, as a result of a raid, a big fire was started on the waterfront, a large building being hit by heavy bombs. In raids on Tobruk, very large fires were started and explosions occurred. Shipping in the harbour was attacked, direct hits being registered on the naval barracks. In Eritrea, Asmara was again bombed, two hangars being hit as well as the runway. In two raids on Gura, several fires were started, accompanied by loud explosions. “South African Air Force squadrons made further extensive reconnaissance flights. From all these operations our aircraft returned safely.” A Royal Air Force communique issued in Cairo states: “We again bombed Asmara and started large fires at Gura. All our planes returned.” Since the Italians entered the war the Royal Air Force has destroyed on all Middle East fronts 225 Italian planes and seriously damaged 131.
