HOME GUARD POST

COL. R. F. GAMBRILL COMMANDING P*B. AREA BIG ORGANISING TASK A Press Association message from Wellington states that Colonel R. F. Gambrill, Gisborne, has been appointed to command the Home Guard units in Area 7a, one of the subdivisions -of the Dominion under the national service scheme. This area centres on Gisborne, and will be organised from the district population centre.

The appointment will have the approval of all residents interested in the success of the Home Guard scheme, and should give a decided impetus to organisation for the defence of the district. Large numbers of men throughout the town and country have bene waiting to enrol with the Home Guard, and the. nomination of Colonel Gambrill holds out the promise of an early start with active work. i Additional Appointments Additional appointments of area commanders for the Home Guard were announced by the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple, last night. They are: Area 7. headquarters Napier.—Lieutenant John Walter Snaddon. Lieutenant Snaddon served in the Hawke’s Bay Regiment from 1911 to 1915 and again from 1918 to 1920. He served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Wellington Regiment from 1915 to 1917. with the rank of lieutenant. He is managing director of a number of companies in Napier and is on the executive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Area 7a, headquarters Gisborne.— Colonel Reginald Frank Gambrill. Colonel Gambrill served with the Wellington Regiment, N.Z.E.F., from 1915 to 1919 and rose to. the rank of major. His name was brought under the notice of the Secretary of State for War for valuable services. After his return to New Zealand he was promoted to lieutenant-colonel to command the Ist Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, and later the 2nd New Zealand InfantryBrigade, with the rank of colonel. He is a barrister and solicitor and a prominent member of the Returned Soldiers’ Association in Gisborne.
