WAIPAWA BY-ELECTION
MR. R. M. ALGIE DECLINES INVITATION TO STAND (Per Preas Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Commenting on the invitation from prominent farmers and business men in Waipawa to contest the forthcoming by-election, Mr. R. M. Algie, Auckland, organiser of the New Zealand Freedom Association, said he naturally regarded the invitation as a very great compliment. However, the council of the Freedom Association unanimously felt that a non-resident candidate, if elected, could not do full justice to a district where farming interests were of such outstanding importance. It also ‘.felt that work in Parliament woiild, under the present circumstances, interfere with and perhaps prejudice the work of the association Which was needed more than ever today.
