Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: Pressure is high from Australia to beyond the South Island, while a shallow depression covers the North Island and northern Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds from between northeast and south-east, later tending to south-westerly in the far north, mainly light, or moderate but strong in parts of the Cook Strait area. Seas: In New Zealand waters rather rough to rough about Cook Strait and on the east coast north of Auckland, but decreasing in the latter area, slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: hight and variable winds in the southern portion and moderate south-east-erlies in the northern, and seas moderate. Weather: Mainly fair to fine south of Nelson and Marlborough, unsettled thence northward with scattered drizzle or rain and mist or fog in places. Temperatures: Moderate in tlic north, cool in the south with some frosts in Canterbury and Otago. To-day’s North Island Report Overcast and cloudy conditions were genera! throughout the North Island this morning, with rain at Opotiki, East Cape and Wellington. A slight tc gentle easterly to north-easterly breeze prevailed in the north, with fresh to strong southerly and southeasterly breezes south of East Cape. The barometer showed a falling tendency. Temperatures at 9 a.m. were: Auckland, 59 degrees; Tnuranga and Gisborne, 58; Napier, 51; Wellington, 59. Seas were smooth to slight generally. but rough at Taurnnga and East Cape. Midday Forecast General Situation: —A disturbance is centred west of Auckland while pressure remains high to the south-east. Forecast: —Moderate winds from an easterly quarter. Thick weather with occasional drizzle or rain. Moderate I temperatures. Seas, rather rough north of Mahia Peninsula: otherwise slight to moderate.
