TIKITIKI DOWNPOUR

SEVEN INCHES OF RAIN (Special to the Herald.) TIKITIKI, this day. During the past two days the Tikitiki area has had a thorough drenching, the aggregate fall of rain for the 48 hours up to 9 a.m. to-day being 7.05 in. To 9 a.m. yesterday, 4.80 in. was recorded at Tikitiki, and this morning’s reading added a further 2.25 in. This morning the weather was clearing up well, and the rivers, which have been running bank-high for 24 hours, were going down. Many small slips were reported on roads in the neighbourhood, and county gangs were out to-day clearing up obstacles to traffic. No serious blockage occurred, however.
