Distinguished Service

Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Larsen, Foster’s Hotel, Wanganui, have received advice that their son, Lieutenant Harold Larsen, has been awarded the M.B.E. for distinguished national service. Lieutenant Larsen, who is aged 26. was born in Wanganui, and was educated at Auckland Grammar School and Auckland University College, where he obtained the degree of master of arts and master of commerce, with first-class honours in each. He left New Zealand in November. 1938. to continue his studies, and on arrival in England enlisted in the navy. After taking a special course, he gained the Board of Trade deep-sea master's certificate. On the outbreak of war he was called up and has been engaged on special service.
