WIDE INDIGNATION
PUBLIC SERVANTS COMMISSIONER’S REPORT (Per PreßS Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A member of the executive of the Public Service Association to-day replied to statements made by the Public Service Commissioner in his annual report to Parliament. “It is with widespread amazement and indignation that public servants throughout New Zealand received the statements,” he said. “Numerous protests have been received by the executive from various branches of the association throughout the Dominion, and the Dominion executive, in view of them, has decided to hold a special meeting on Monday night to consider and discuss the matter.
“It is considered especially unfortunate that the commissioner should choose the present time to publish such statements, as it was by the special request of the Prime Minister himself that the public service executive- only recently met and discussed with the commissioner’s representatives the possibility of an amicable settlement of the whole question of efficiency tests. “It is considered that the commissioner, in thus publicly airing his side of the question, is taking undue advantage in view of the fact that the discussions between the two parties have not yet been completed.”
